Sidhu Moose Wala hailed from a Jatt Sikh family in Moosa village. He pursued engineering studies and later moved to Canada, where he began his music career. His stage name, “Moose Wala,” is derived from his native village, Moosa.
Music Career
Moose Wala started his career as a songwriter in 2016, penning lyrics for the song “License” by Ninja. He debuted as a singer in 2017 with the track “G Wagon.” His breakthrough came with the song “So High,” which showcased his unique style and lyrical prowess.
In 2018, he released his debut album, PBX 1, which peaked at number 66 on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart. His 2021 album, Moosetape, featured 32 tracks and included collaborations with international artists like Bohemia, Tion Wayne, and Stefflon Don.
Moose Wala’s music often addressed social issues and personal experiences. His song “SYL,” released posthumously, discussed the Satluj Yamuna Link canal controversy and called for the release of Sikh political prisoners.
Political Involvement
In December 2021, Sidhu Moose Wala joined the Indian National Congress and contested the 2022 Punjab Legislative Assembly election from the Mansa constituency. However, he was unsuccessful in his political debut.
Assassination and Legacy
On May 29, 2022, Sidhu Moose Wala was assassinated in a drive-by shooting in Jawaharke village, Mansa district, Punjab. He was 28 years old. The incident occurred a day after his security cover was reduced by the Punjab government. The case is currently under investigation, with several individuals, including Lawrence Bishnoi, accused in connection with the murder.
Despite his untimely death, Moose Wala’s music continues to resonate with fans worldwide. Posthumous releases like “The Last Ride” and “SYL” have garnered millions of views, cementing his legacy as a voice of his generation.
